SSAM 쌈 [WRAPPED] + JANG 장 [SAUCE OR PASTE]
A concentrated, no-cook, stir-together sauce that’s equal parts savory funk and sweet heat. This Korean barbeque mainstay is perfect for dipping and dabbing. Pairs well with grilled meats, raw veggies, bibimbap and dumplings. A little goes a long way.

HISTORY

Our products are made in small batches in Korea using traditional methods (think: cotton cloths, ceramic pots, and iron cauldrons). Fermentation, like all good things, takes time. 

JANG 101

A jang 장 (gochu-jang, ssam-jang) is a sauce or paste made from fermented soybeans. Gochujang and ssamjang in particular define spiciness in Korean cuisine.

HOW TO USE

There’s no wrong way to use a jang. Add to anything that could use a punch of flavor, either straight from the jar or while cooking. Try either in rice bowls, add gochujang to bolognese or chicken wings, dip a cucumber in ssamjang – find what works for you.

WHY WE MADE THEM

The traditional way of making jangs at home has tapered off since the growth of mass market commercial production in the 1970s. While we’ve benefitted from the easy access and expansion of such businesses, we’re also losing the art and magic of natural Korean ingredients. Potluck is an invitation to learn about and try the highest quality jangs, made the way they were supposed to be.

    So many options!

    I have used the paste straight from the jar but also as a great way to enhance other recipes! Add to chili or pulled pork or even beef stew! The paste is complex and a nice umami addition for your kitchen!

    Great flavor and an interesting experience

    I’m more familiar with gochujang so the ssamjang is a little out of my comfort zone; but this is great! Salty and funky in the best way. Strongly recommend!

    Try as a soup base!

    It might sound funny, but I really like this for fixing up a quick soup: mix with hot water and scoop in a some silken tofu, and done!

    Aesthetic and tasty!!

    The packaging is the cutest and the ssamjang is so flavorful! Perfect for when you just need to add a little kick to something. It would also serve as a great little gift for foodie friends.

    Perfect blend

    Its the perfect introduction to Ssamjang. I grew up with funkier, more doenjang heavy ssamjang and it definitely requires a certain palate as well as specific dishes. This ssamjang is versatile and easy to eat! Perfect for dipping ice cold crudités and for an easy condiment with proteins in a lettuce wrap.
